My Eczema Story aka What is on my face?!

Eczema is this red, itchy inflammation of the skin, and at the age of 29, I had my first flare-up; ON MY FACE.

Here's the thing. For me, in the beginning, it just looked like I had a little redness around my nose. Like the kind of redness, you get after a cold from blowing your nose all day. So I thought "no big deal" this will go away.

Then it got itchy.

Then it got bumpy.

Then I thought, OMG, I have acne that is taking over my whole face.

eczema and skincare

My eczema spread from the crease of my nose to my chin/mouth area and even my eyelids. It was horrible.

Let's fast-forward to today, shall we?

My skin is the clearest it's been in, and honestly, three things have majorly helped:

1) Pimecrolimus Cream, 1%: So this cream is prescribed by a dermatologist and can be expensive, but worth every penny. Give it time, but this cream helped clear my eczema faster than anything else.

2) Less Stress: There is still a lot to be learned here, but research has found that a flare-up in eczema is often associated with psychological stress. Maybe it's in my head, but when I started focusing on improving my stress levels, my skin stayed clearer longer.

3) Moisturizer: The National Eczema Association says that keeping your skin moisturized is one of the most important things you can do to help control your eczema. They wrote a great article covering the "do's and don'ts" when it comes to moisturizer.

I am far from feeling like I have my eczema under control, so I am still experimenting with different lifestyle changes and products.

Up next, I am starting to explore using CBD in my skincare routine. This experience is still totally new for me, but I will keep you posted on my progress. Also, if you have any tips, please reach out on Instagram or comment below!
